No security sounds like a huge upside to me. It would serve no purpose. The worst you could do on a train is detonate a bomb (you can't exactly hijack something that travels on rails) and detonating a bomb would be bad, but no worse than doing so in a stadium, mall, school, church, or any number of other places where we don't bother with security.

That said, I don't plan on riding Amtrak any time soon. The nearest station is five hours from my hometown, and while there is actually a station where I am now attending school, the Amtrak website is mind-bogglingly impossible to use. The automatic route planner attempts to route me from Alabama to Texas via Virginia and Chicago, and I can't even click on routes or stations on the map to figure out schedules and departures on my own. Add to that prices higher than comparative flights and travel times of several days (though I could deal with that) and I'm just not going to be a customer.

That's a shame though. I'd LIKE to travel by train, if only I could make it work. If we could run passenger rail in the 1800s why can't we do it now?

Sir, I hope you check your bank statements often. Amtrak is buggy when it comes to security. If you only purchased a train ticket you are likely OK but if you added something such as a rental car or hotel the security of the website breaks. They are aware of the situation but haven't fixed it. Customer support will only tell you "the site is secure" repeatedly and there is no way to speak with a technical person or supervisor.

After Amtrak deploys speech recognition nationwide it will decide whether to take the next step and use the human-sounding voice of its database to conversationally pitch targeted promotions to inbound callers, <a href="http://www.amtrakpromotioncode.net" rel="nofollow">amtrak promotion code</a> using a new form of interactive teleservices media known as speech spots. With speech spots the talking database would use targeted scripts to cross sell or upsell offers by working them into conversations with inbound callers. At present Amtrak is focusing on installing speech recognition technology, which will give it the capacity to do this.

I totally agree. They definitely need to have a lesson from neighboring countries who are experts on this. The security alone is really concerning, because they didn't even check your bags for illegal contraband (not that you have any of course) from x-ray machines or metal detectors. Haven't we learned from the terror attacks that happened? Wow, their neglects on security is really saddening.
